“Bookmark Lists”, another fun part of Geocaching!
By HartMan of the HartMan-CatWoman Team

Have you ever wanted to organize cache listings into your own lists, like top 10 favorite caches, or suggest different caches to visitors in your area? You can create Bookmark lists and share them with your friends. You can also use them to plan your next geocaching adventure. "A bookmark list is a user defined collection of listings. They can be used as Todo lists, watch lists, a way to organize listings you find, or whatever you decide. You can keep them private or share them with others." (from the “Bookmark Lists” descriptions on Geocaching.com)

When viewing a Cache Listing on Geocaching.com, a basic member will be able to see the Bookmark Lists that have been shared by Premium members in a box just below the Attributes and Inventory boxes on the right hand side of the web page.

If you are a premium member, you can provide feedback to others who have created Bookmark Lists too!

When creating a Bookmark Lists there are three boxes which can be selected.

I want to share this list with others

Make this list public (show on bookmarked listings)

Notify me when items on this list are logged

As a Premium Member, one of the ways to get started with Bookmark Lists is to log-in to your Geocaching.com account and select “My Account” from the menu on the left side of the web page.

On the left side of the My Account Details page, you will see a vertical menu bar. In the middle of this bar is “Premium Features”. Click on the “Manage Bookmarks” link to open the web page. This will show any existing Bookmark Lists you own, and in the pink bar is the “create new list” link. (Click on this to create a Bookmark List)

The first box that will appear is the name of your Bookmark List, which by default will be called “New Bookmark List”, Just type over that text to enter your own list name, such as “Our Favorite Geocache finds

You have the option to describe your list in 1,000 or less characters.

Decide on the options you want to use and then click on the “Create Bookmark List” button. You can always go back and edit anything you have done!

Your new bookmark list will be empty. You can now add “Bookmarks” by going to any Geocache listing you want to bookmark. When the web page for a cache is displayed on your computer, you can click on the red book icon (bookmark listing) in the Navigation window located in the upper right side of the web page.

We have created public bookmark lists for our favorite caches for others to find, the ones we enjoyed finding, and the ones we have hidden that would not be good for folks with limited physical abilities.

We have found some really great Geocaches that we probably would never had looked otherwise because we explored the “Bookmark Lists” of others who have shared their “Favorites”

You can see what public bookmark lists other Geocachers have created by going to their Profile page and clicking on the Bookmark Lists tab.

Have fun with these lists, and share your favorite finds, the caches you want to try in the future, or maybe the caches you want to watch without adding them to a “watchlist”!
